The less stressed you are, the better.
So if you’re having trouble coming up with the perfect maternity leave email, here’s an example email (with subject line ideas at the bottom of this post!).
If you want to have an out of office announcement that’s:
- Professional and fun at the same time
- Easy to read and crystal clear
Then go ahead and copy this:
Can I use this email for myself?
Yes you definitely can.
You should.
Grab it here for free if you want to use it for yourself.
Or just copy paste it from here:
Dear WHOEVER YOU’RE SENDING IT TO,
I’ve got some exciting news to share with you!
(Sorry for my excitement. Must be the hormones ☺️)
WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU
Don’t worry. Nothing changes, except 1 thing:
- your contact at WHATEVER DEPARTMENT THEY DEAL WITH will become FIRSTNAME LASTNAME (in cc)
I’ll be on maternity leave from START DATE to END DATE.
I’ve briefed FIRSTNAME LASTNAME on all the details so she will take good care of you while I’m gone.
Remember this
Just remember to email firstname.lastname@corporate.com if you need any help these coming months. I won’t read any emails sent to my email.
Once again, that email address is: firstname.lastname@corporate.com
I wish you all the best and we will see each other again next year.
Why did I write this maternity leave email?
There’s a story to this:
Why would a guy like me just write a maternity leave email?!
Here’s how it happened:
I received an email last week.
It was from someone at a corporate organization announcing their maternity leave… (I work as a digital marketing consultant).
Her email had a super enticing subject line!
So I opened it.
And I got very confused.
And I know why…
She made a crucial copywriting mistake. (You can see me analyze her email here)
So, I used this experience as inspiration to teach people about copywriting.
And hence, I analyzed the original email, and came up with a better one.
Which is this one that you’re reading here.
So feel free to use it as you like.
No rights reserved. No copyright.
Hope it helps you out.
Because the less stressed you are, the better.
Valeu. Obrigado. Namasté. Gratidão.
P.S. Here’s a great maternity leave email subject line
If no-one opens your out of office email… What’s the point in sending it, right?
So to make sure they open your email, you need a good subject line.
Take it from me, I do this stuff for a living, these are some subject lines that will get people to open your email:
- Exciting news! 🙂 Plus what this means for you.
- I’m leaving.
- Before emailing me, read this.
- I’m out.
- Gone for a while.
- Be right back.
- Having a baby. %NAME% will replace me.
- I’m leaving the office.
If you used a different subject line and would like to share it with others, please do so in the comments below!
