I know they trick you into starting your message with introducing yourself…
It’s literally there as a “Tip” when you start writing a Message Ad.

That’s why I’m not blaming anyone who does this, they’re just being a good boy๐ซก
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ๐บ ๐ถ๐ this:
If you start with introducing yourself, it will actually not be the 1st but the 3rd time you’re introducing yourself…
You’re ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฎ๐น๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป โ leading to lower engagement.
That’s no bueno! ๐
You’re already shown with name, profile picture AND job title up front so there’s no need to repeat yourself.

The worst thing is this:
If you start talking about yourself, people see you as someone wanting to SELL them something.
No-one wants to be sold to. They immediately put up a guard…

But if you start talking about their PROBLEM, then they start seeing you as someone providing a SOLUTION to their problem.
And now, they’re listing! ๐

So please:
โ Donโt start with your name

Start with their problem
โ
Be brief, clear, and empathetic
That’s gonna help you get way more responses to your InMails or Sponsored Messages, ultimately increasing your ROI. ๐
For example, this gentleman offering an MBA could have used these “problem hooks” on me:
